Shyness is the cause of much unhappiness for a great many people. Shy people are anxious and self-conscious; that is, they are excessively concerned with their own appearance and actions. Worrisome thoughts are constantly occurring in their minds: what kind of impression am I making? Do they like me? Do I sound stupid? Am I wearing unattractive clothes?

It is obvious that such uncomfortable feelings must negatively affect people. A persons conception of himself or herself is reflected in the way he or she behaves, and the way a person behaves affects other peoples reactions. In general, the way people think about themselves has a profound effect on all areas of their lives.

Shy people, having low self-esteem, are likely to be passive and easily influenced by others. They need reassurance that they are doing the right thing.Shy people are very sensitive to criticism; they feel it confirms their feelings of inferiority. They also find it difficult to be pleased by compliment with a statement like this one, Youre just saying that to make me feel good. I know its not true.It is clear that while self-awareness is a healthy quality, overdoing it is harmful.

Can shyness be completely eliminated, or at least reduced? Fortunately, people can overcome shyness with determined and patient efforts in building self-confidence. Since shyness goes hand in hand with a lack of self-esteems, it is important for people to accept their weakness as well as their strengths.

Each one of us is a unique, worthwhile individual, interested in our own personal ways. The better we understand ourselves, the easier it becomes to live up to our full potential. Lets not allow shyness to block our chances for a rich and fulfilling life.

    11.  What does the author try to prove by citing what kind of impression am I making?

A Shy people benefit from their caring about their appearance.

B peoples shyness made them care too much about their appearance and actions.

C its natural that shy people dont believe others compliments.

D shy people think they are different from others.

B  shyness enables us to understand ourselves better

C  shyness can block our chances for a rich life.

D  shyness has nothing to do with lack of self -esteem.

Advantages and Disadvantages of the Mobile Phone .

With the rapid economic development, the mobile phone has found its way into campuses and a host of students take advantage of this wonderful gadget to communicate with each other. This phenomenon gives rise to this question:  What are the advantages and disadvantages of the mobile phone?
It is widely believed that it greatly facilitates students' campus life.  Many instances could be found to support this type of opinion.  A graduating student in our university bought a mobile phone in the course of hunting for his job.  He told me that through the mobile phone he could easily keep in touch with the employer of the company he intends to work with and would not miss any opportunities.
However, everything has both positive and negative facets. The mobile phone also has many disadvantages.  For instance, the ringing of the mobile phone often disturbs the teacher's teaching and other students' learning.
Personally, the advantages of the mobile phone outweigh the disadvantages of it as long as we don't interfere with others while using it.

    Passage one

Australia is nearly as large as the united states, but most of it is too dry for people to live in. Around this dry part are large sheep and cow farms. A few of them are as large as the smallest states in America. often the nearest neighbors are several hundred kilometers away.

The two -way radio is very important to people who live on these great Australian farms. It works much like a telephone. A person can listen to someone else talk and then give an answer. For example , people in the large farms could talk to a doctor far away. They could tell the doctor about someone who was ill, and the doctor could let them know how to look after the sick person.

As the large farms were so far from towns, the children could not to to school. Radio schools were started for them in some places. At a certain time each day ,boys and girls turn on their radios and listen to teachers in cities far away.

Families on the large farms wanted to give news to their neighbors. The program "Round Robin" talks by radio was started to keep families in touch with each other . They could talk about who was going away and who was ill. The men could talk about their sheep and cows and how much money the markets would pay for them . in many ways the radio became a newspaper for the farm people of Australia.

Self-study is a way for people who havent enough time to go to school .

It has a lot of advantages, First, We can arrange our time and adjust our process flexibly according to our own situation. For example, we can use some of our leisure time everyday to learn some subjects by self-study.
